New EFSA opinions were published since October: Although the effect of isomaltulose on “normal energy-yielding metabolism” was confirmed by EFSA, the panel was unable to establish conditions of use. The background is that this effect is not exclusive to isomaltulose but also applies to other macronutrients.
Another application dealt with the relationship of organic food with proposed lower pesticide residues on the protection body cells and molecules (lipids and DNA) from oxidative damage. The target group was children aged 3-15 years. However, the applicant failed to adequately characterize the organic foods; for example, data on actual pesticide residues and nutritional information were missing.
